ESMA's 'Report Once' Reform: What It Means for Regulatory Reporting

The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has published its final report proposing a "report once" approach to simplify transaction reporting across MiFIR, EMIR, and SFTR. The reform aims to cut duplication and reconciliation costs, with ESMA estimating annual savings of €250 million to €1 billion for the industry.

Mark Steadman, Managing Director and Head of Report Hub at Delta Capita, welcomed the direction of the report, noting that firms have invested billions complying with overlapping reporting regimes and that the real challenge now is making simplification practical. He added that targeted simplification measures could deliver value well before a full "report once" framework is realised.
